About AMICUS EMAJOWA foundation
The AMICUS EMAJOWA Foundation is the charity arm of Amicus Consortium. Amicus believes that integrated growth cannot leave out vulnerable members of the community. Wholesome development and welfare are good for creating a conducive business environment and enables sustainable business. It is based on this that Amicus invests part of its resources in promoting development and empowerment for some of the most vulnerable. This is delivered through the Amicus Women Economic Empowerment Programme (AWOEPRO) and the Amicus Teenz Club (ATENC).
To promote development and empowerment for some of the most vulnerable
The Amicus Emajowa Foundation was established in November 2017, after the urge to help those in need. The word EMAJOWA was coined from the name EMMANUEL JOSHUA OWAGAGE, the late father of the Managing Director of Amicus Consortium (U) Ltd. The late Owagage was a man with a strong passion for education and desire to help those in need; unfortunately, he died on April 21 1998. The Emajowa Foundation was established in memory of the late Owagage. The foundation is based in Kamuli district of Eastern Uganda but with the hope of expanding to other Busoga regions. The Amicus- Emajowa Foundation activities are carried out four times a year in March, June, September and December.
Since 2017, the foundation has helped several children and adults, basically providing education and other essential needs like sugar, salt, soap, clothing and food among other essential items.
Comprising of 10 women in rural Busoga region, who live in absolute poverty. The women are helped together worth their children especially those below 12 years with basic needs as mentioned above. The women are further encouraged to engage in money creating ventures like agriculture and animal rearing, which the foundation finances. These are later sold and profit shared.
Mainly focusing on the teenage group of thirteen to nineteen years of age, both girls and boys. This was launched in July 2020. The project is operating in the areas of Kamuli district as well as Luwero in central Uganda. The purpose is to help needy teenagers acquire basic needs, basic skills and have a decent life.
The home is found in Kireka – Kamuli, in Wakiso district. The home has children of all ages with several impairments. The foundation offers various foodstuffs to the home twice a month. At Amicus Consortium (U) Ltd the Foundation is a means through which the company gives back to society in appreciation for the support the company receives through the other business branches of Amicus Mixed Farm, Amicus Car Rental and Amicus Hotel.
